I sat down with Ross Caputi last week. Ross runs the Center for Italian Culture archive at Fitchburg State University. The Sogni d'Oro collection is 35 interviews, 55 hours total, going back to 2001. First, second, and third generation Italian immigrants telling their stories.

As the new ADA Title II rules kick in every minute of that archive needed captions. Not a transcript. Caption files. SRT or VTT, formatted correctly, accepted by JSTOR's community archives platform.

Ross tried a few tools first. YouTube and a few generic speech-to-text tools all failed on format.

Then he tried Alice.

"We've tried a number of different tools, but Alice app got through all of it in a day. It was very, very fast, and as accurate or more accurate than any."

All 55 hours. Captioned in a single day. 40 to 80 hours of editing time saved. One to two full work weeks recovered.

What stood out to him: accuracy was as good or better than anything else he tried. Caption breaks landed at natural pauses, not mid-phrase. And the whole job (upload, transcribe, edit, export to SRT or VTT) happened in one app.
